Problem Solvers

  1. Construct a one-year bar chart of the front continuous Unleaded Gas futures contract for 1998. Isolate or zoom in on the period from September 1998 until December 1998, and draw both an uptrend channel trendline by connecting a series of higher lows and higher highs and a downtrend channel trendline by connecting a series of lower highs and lower lows. Remember that a set of parallel lines enclosing a trend is referred to as trend channels. You should be able to identify an uptrend channel from the beginning of September 1998 and ending at the beginning of October 1998. The downtrend channel begins at the end of October 1998 and is completed around the beginning of December 1998.

  2. Construct a two-year chart of the closing price for the front continuous Light Sweet Crude Oil futures contract for 1998 and 1999. Isolate or zoom in on the period from December 1998 to February 1999. Notice that there are two significant pivot-tops (price pattern that appears as a price peak) followed by a prominent sell off in the contract. Try to measure from the pivot-top to the pivot-bottom on both patterns using the Mouse Pick feature.

Place your cursor directly upon the high or low before using the mouse to select. Also after selecting the second point of interest it is unnecessary to toggle to Mouse Pick Off. Simply select the third point of interest to anchor a new setting.
